Coming-of-Age Party - Mr "Dick" Bothe Honoured
"On the evening of Saturday, 9th June, about sixty young people gathered at the Coorow hall at the invitation of Mr and Mrs Bothe, of 'Inglewood' Coorow, to celebrate the coming-of-age of their elder son, 'Dick'. At 8 p.m. the guests sat down to a sumptuous repast prepared almost entirely by Mrs Bothe herself. Several toasts were honoured as follows: 'The King', proposed by the chairman (Mr Norman Hyde); 'The Guest of the Evening', proposed by Mr John Read and responded to by Mr 'Dick' Bothe; 'Absent Friends', proposed by Mr C. Bothe; 'The Parents', proposed by Mr K. E. Jones and responded to by Mr Baxter Bothe. Mr Bothe, in a happy speech, presented his son with a wooden key which was later autographed by all present. The evening passed pleasantly with dancing and games, interspersed with items. A novelty was the Racehorse Game, which provided plenty of excitement. In the final were Mrs Charlie Bothe, Miss Gwen Broadhurst and Mr Graham Hyde. Mr Hyde was the winner, closely followed by Miss Broadhurst second, and Mrs Bothe in third place. Mr Bronte Waldeck brought his microphone for the occasion, and Mr Len Schier made a very able and amusing commentator. His description of the races, together with the usual small talk concerning the course and the latest fashions, gave the thing quite a realistic atmosphere. The party broke up in the wee small hours with the singing of 'Auld Lang Syne' and 'God Save the King'."
From The West Australian newspaper, Saturday 8 February 1947:
