From The Truth newspaper, Saturday 3 September 1927:
Jasper Green
"Fremantle's greatest fortune is that so many of its biggest business men, spare time and energy from their personal affairs in the interests of the progress of their town. Few other slogans and so consistently proclaimed and so rigorously observed as is "Fremantle for Fremantleites" and it is very unwise for a visitor (and for the visitor's sake) to make a disparaging reference to anything pertaining to the port, within hearing of town champions. One of the youngest, and yet one of the best established of these town champions, is Jasper Green. Jasper, with his brothers, is Arthur E. Davies and Co., amongst the best known firm of funeral directors in the State. Born at Prahan, Victoria, in 1887, he came here in 1900, and except for a three years' residence in Perth he has lived at Fremantle ever since. His first job after leaving school was with a big warehouse, where he existed amongst ink, figures and ledgers for a little more than six years. Then in 1910 he got into his present business, which during the past seventeen years has grown out of all knowledge. At Carnamah the Green Bros. have extensive farming interests. They took up land 15 years ago, and are doing well with it. He is a keen football follower, and is connected with both the local clubs. About 15 years ago he was in the State champion life-saving team, and before he was married he was a shining light in Fremantle tennis circles, being in fact the caption of the old St. John's Club for several years."
