     His horse Patchwork tied to win the Hurry Scurry race, and he himself came 2nd in the Sheffield Handicap running race [39]
He travelled to Moora for medical treatment in early August 1915 after being struck in the eye while clearing in Arrino [10: 13-Aug-1915]
Described as the "Arrino wind splitter" he won the Sheffield Handicap at the Sports Day in Three Springs on 18/02/1916 [10: 25-Feb-1916]
Enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 4 March 1916 at Blackboy Hill, and was given the rank and number of Private 2658 [30]

For a time he worked for veterinarian Henry F. BASFORD who worked as a vet throughout the North Midlands [P2]
After the vet left he was often called to help with sick horses and other injured or unwell animals [P2]
