From The Sunday Times newspaper, Sunday 14 July 1946:
Mother of 29 - Mrs. A. Brown Dies
"Mother of Australia's biggest family - 29 - Mrs. Annie Brown of North Fremantle and formerly of Pemberton, was interred at Karrakatta cemetery yesterday. She was 67. A number of her 12 surviving children and their own children were at the funeral. Her husband, Joseph Brown, died some years ago. Married at Cue in 1901 - her husband had divorced his first wife after she left him because they had no children - they lived at Mt. Magnet, Cue, or conducted wayside hotels on the Murchison stock route. Later they ran the Chidlow's Hotel, the Burlington at Bunbury. They farmed at Perenjori, kept a store at Carnamah, went copper mining at Whim Creek. They were with shearing and droving teams, then down at Kendenup, and later at Pemberton. And in all the years that Mrs. Brown was pluckily following her husband wherever his work took him, the Stork was always close at hand. Her life was an amazing example of pluck. Sixteen of her children were boys and 13 girls. First child, a girl, was born in 1901 but died of fever, from which the mother was suffering at the time. Youngest, Hazel Joan, was born in 1927. All of her 29 children were born in the first 31 years of her married life. If ever a woman did her duty to her country it was the late Mrs. Brown"
