From The North Midland Times newspaper, Friday 30 September 1938:
"Obituary - Late Mrs. T. Johnston - It is with extreme regret that we record the death of Mrs. Violet Elsie Johnston, who passed away in Perth at an early hour last Sunday morning. The late Mrs. Johnston was the wife of Mr. Thomas Johnston, and was well and favourably known in the Carnamah district, where she had resided for some time. For some time past the deceased lady had not enjoyed the best of health, but despite this fact the news of her demise came as a great shock to all who had known her. Of a likeable disposition, her passing will be mourned by all with whom she came in contact. The late Mrs. Johnston was aged only 39 years and leaves a husband and one son Tony (who is at present attending the Christian Bros. Collage at Geraldton) to mourn their loss. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m., the place of interment being the Presbyterian portion of the Karrakatta Cemetery."

From The Irwin Index newspaper, Saturday 1 October 1938:
"Carnamah Resident's Death - Following a brief illness, the death of Mrs. Violet Elsie Johnston, of Carnamah, occurred in Perth on Sunday last, the deceased lady having been in inmate of the Carnamah Private Hospital until she was transferred to the city on Wednesday of last week for further medical attention. The late Mrs. Johntson, who was 39 years of age, is survived by her husband (Mr. Thomas Johnston) and one son (Tony), who have been the recipients of innumerable expressions of sympathy in their sad and somewhat sudden bereavement. The funeral took place in Perth on Tuesday last and was attended by a number of district residents who made a special journey to the city."

From The North Midland Times newspaper, Friday 29 September 1939:
"In Memoriam. JOHNSTON - In loving memory of our Darling Wife and Mother, Violet Elsie, who passed away at Perth on September 25th, 1938. Inserted by her loving Husband and Son, Carnamah."
