From The Western Mail newspaper, Tuesday 4 April 1933:
Women's Interests - Social
"Senator P. J. Lynch, President of the Senate, has become engaged to Miss Mary Brown of Narrogin. Miss Brown is a daughter of the late Mr. Michael Brown, widely known as the 'Father of Narrogin' and Mayor of that town for several years. The late Mr. Brown began life on the land long before rail communication was established and with boundless energy worked his way to the front as a pioneer landowner and business man. His daughter lived with her parents for years on one of his properties at Jitarning, about 60 miles from Narrogin. The late Mr. Brown lived strenuously to the last, as can be gathered from the fact that the day before his death he presided over a meeting of directors of the Narrogin Flour Milling Company, with which he had been connected from its foundation. Senator Lynch owns a big farm at Three Springs, which he took up about 24 years ago. He, too, had his taste of pioneering, his life at Three Springs being but in continuation of it. He had to cart water ten miles for ploughing. Now water is laid on over his 3,000 acre holding. After her marriage, Miss Brown will live at Canberra when Parliament is in session and the President's official duties require his presence there. Otherwise, she will make her home at Mt. Leonora farm, Three Springs. Senator Lynch called his farm that name because it was Mt. Leonora district that first gave him distinction in public life. Miss Brown and Senator Lynch have received congratulations from a wide circle of friends."
