His father was born in America to German parents and had immigrated to Australia in 1889 ^{[30: item 1548320]}
He resided with his parents in Melbourne until about 1904 when they shifted to the Perth suburb of Maylands in Western Australia ^[30]
One of four children, he had an elder brother Charles, younger brother Noel and younger sister Gwendoline ^{[30: item 1548320]}

Married Marion Agatha CASSERLEY in Perth in 1935 ^[66]
He and his wife were living at 76 Wright Street in North Perth in 1936, and later resided at 59 Eton Street in North Perth ^[50]
They resided at 190 Anzac Road in the Perth suburb of Mount Hawthorn in the later 1950s and early 1960s ^[50]
In 1968 they were at 32 Milford Way in the suburb of Nollamara and in 1972 at 80D 80D Cartwright Road in the suburb of Balga ^[50]
Died 16 February 1975; ashes interred at Karrakatta Cemetery in Perth, Western Australia (Lawn 5, Niche Wall, W7) ^[2]
