From The North Midland Times newspaper, 20 August 1943:
Obituary - Mrs Fairclough Sen.
"On Tuesday of last week another old and respected resident of Moora, in the person of Mrs Fairclough senr., passed over the Great Divide. Coming to Moora some thirty years ago from the Eastern Goldfields, in company with her late husband and family, the late Mrs Fairclough settled into the life of the district and was a highly respected personage.
The late lady's husband, who predeceased her some years ago, was the principal in Fairclough's blacksmithing business, and when he died the business was carried on by his sons. For a quarter of a century the name of Fairclough has been associated with the social and sporting life of the district - a name which will undoubtedly live down through the annals of local history. A family woman, who placed her family above all other considerations, the late lady could not but command respect. She was born Kalington, S.A., 83 years ago, and despite her advanced years retained all her faculties, excepting her hearing, until her death.
Only a few months before her demise I was talking to the late Mrs Fairclough and was astonished at the grip she still had on local affairs. Sorrow had played a bit part in her life and had made a sympathetic person. She had mourned the passing of her husband and a beloved son (Merv.). A few years ago a favourite grandchild (Lewis) was striken down in tragic circumstances while on the threshold of manhood, and another grandson (Milton) is a prisoner of war in Japanese hands.
Of late years the old lady spent most of her time indoors, and so met few people. For the last three years she was at Carnamah with her daughter (Mrs Sheridan), but towards the end the deceased felt that she would like to go back to her old home again.
The funeral took place at the Moora cemetery on 18th August, the Rev. W. J. Burton officiating. Attending the funeral with the relatives, were many old friends of the family. A long life, well and kindly lived. When the end came she was ready. So, one by one, the old pioneers pass on, their work finished.
Wreaths and floral tributes were received from the following:- Her Daughter Ivy and Grandsons Ross, Max and Bill; Amy and Ray; Will, Alice, Jack, Lilah and Betty; W. M. Officers and Brethren of Moora Lodge No. 97 W.A.C.; Mr and Mrs C. L. Tobin and family; Mrs Alf. Gladwell and family; Mrs Clarke and family and Mrs M. Gladwell; M. and B. Kay, Mr and Mrs J. J. Wallace, Mr and Mrs J. B. Murray, Mr and Mrs A. Brown and family; Mrs A. H. Cook and family; Mr and Mrs A. Lumbers and family; Mr and Mrs V. Cousins and Raedawn; Mr and Mrs Bristol; Mr and Mrs M. Brown and family; Mr and Mrs K. Saleeba; Mr and Mrs C. McVee and family; Mr and Mrs T. Keamy senr. and family; Mr and Mrs Monty Purser and Mavis; Mr and Mrs J. Young; Mr and Mrs W. R. Cockman and family."
