Death of Old Carnamah Identity
"Following somewhat abnormal health conditions during the past two years, the death occurred in the North Midlands District Hospital at Three Springs on Friday last of an old and highly respected resident of Carnamah in the person of Mr. James Hostley Rowland at the age of seventy-five years. With his wife and a young family the late Mr. Rowland transferred from Dongara to Carnamah about thirty-five years ago to commence farming activities, and during that period the family have become well known almost right through-out the North Midlands. In addition to a bereaved widow, the deceased gentleman is survived by three sons (Alf, Wally and Phil) and five daughters comprising Mavis (Mrs. C. Rayner), Jean (Mrs H. Davis), Fay (Mrs. P. Moody), Eunice (Mrs. A. Niven) and Shirley (Mrs. E. K. Rowland) and there are also seventeen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In the presence of a large assemblage of relatives and friends the funeral took place in the Winchester Cemetery on Saturday last with the Rev. Threlfall officiating at the graveside. The pall-bearers were Messrs. T. Perry, L. Schier, E. Gurr and C. Robertson, and the casket was borne from the hearse to the grave by Messrs. S. Fleay, R. Watson, R. Parkin and R. Bowran."
