From The Geraldton Guardian newspaper, Thursday 3 August 1916:
Sudden Deaths
"Constable Page, of Three Springs, has reported to Inspector Holmes that Herbert Horatio Clark, the infant son of Mr Clark, of Carnamah, died suddenly on Saturday. The child was only 17 days old and had been weakly since birth. An old lady named Mrs Francis Ann Payne, of Arrino, also died suddenly on Saturday. Deceased, who lived with her daughter, Mrs Dodd, had been confined to her bed for twelve months, and her end was therefore not unexpected. It was decided that an inquest was not necessary in either case."
From The Moora Herald and Midland Districts Advocate newspaper, Friday 11 August 1916:
Three Springs Notes
"Another burial of an infant, this time from Carnamah, in our local cemetery, once again brings to my mind the urgent necessity of some kind of district nursing scheme, such as mentioned by me some time ago. Our cemetery is, unfortunately, beginning to show that the grim harvester death has been at work all too frequently and with one exception all the graves contain infants. As most infants' deaths are caused through want of a little elementary knowledge in infantile complaints, surely a little of the energy directed to sending our men folk to death or glory, could be spared to evolve some scheme to save the lives of infants who are sadly needed to fill the gaps caused by war. This is a State matter and not one to be handled by any single community."
