After leaving school in 1916 he began working as a Merchant's Officer [P160]
Later purchased farmland in Caron in partnership with his brother Charles POPE and farmed there until shifting to Carnamah [P160]
He and his younger brother Charles POPE purchased 2,001 acres of virgin land in Carnamah on 23 April 1924 [27]
The 2,001 acres was purchased from the Midland Railway Company at a cost of £1300/19/6 or 13/- per acre [27]
Received a 20% discount for paying cash for the land, which was said to have been financed by their father [9: 15-May-1925] [27] [P160]
The 2,001 acres was Lot M1473 of Victoria Location 2023 and was situated eleven miles east of the Carnamah townsite [27] [P160]

He and his brother Charles both farmed the property in partnership as "Pope Bros" 1924-1930 [P160]
Initially the rates for their farm in Carnamah were sent to their father "C/- Col. Pope, Commissioner of Railway, Perth" [34]
Their father visited Carnamah for a week in May 1925, during which time he stayed at the Carnamah Hotel [9: 15-May-1925]
In 1925 they were hoping that the following year they'd be reaping 30 bushel crops [9: 15-May-1925]
They had an account with Carnamah blacksmith, wheelwright and motor mechanics Henry Parkin & Son from 1927 to 1931 [53]
While harvesting on Saturday 19 January 1929 a spark from their tractor started a fire on their farm [4: 26-Jan-1929]
The fire was quickly extinguished with the help of their neighbours, but destroyed two acres of crop and bags of wheat [4]
Their father Col. Harold POPE was a guest at the R.S.L. Smoke Social held in Carnamah on 2 February 1929 [4: 9-Feb-1929]
During the year 1930 Charles left the farm and Carnamah to study Veterinary Science at the Sydney University [P160]
Despite Charles' departure their partnership "Pope Bros" appears to have continued [3] [60]
He was assisted on Koolabba Farm in Carnamah by his younger brother Vivian POPE for a number of years [6] [19] [P160]
They hosted the Wedding Social & Dance for Stuart & May FORD at their home on Koolabba on 25 January 1936 [5: 31-Jan-1936]
With assistance from neighbouring farmer and master builder Frederick W. COLE he built a mud brick home on Koolabba Farm [P160]
Attended Charles ROBERTSON and Winifred LANG's wedding dance on 27 March 1928 at the Carnamah Hall [4: 31-Mar-1928]
He was among those who attended the Centenary Ball held at the Carnamah Hall on 26 July 1929 [86: 3-Aug-1929]

Obituary - Late Colonel Pope
"The death occurred in Perth on Thursday evening of last week of Colonel Pope, formerly a Commissioner of Railways. The news of his demise was received in Carnamah on Friday morning, and his two sons, Messrs. Harold and Vivian Pope left immediately for the city to follow the remains to their last resting place. The sympathy of a wide circle of friends goes out to bereaved ones."
