An audit of the Road Board's books showed irregularities of £407/13/7, which it was alleged he had stolen [81: 14-Aug-1927]
As a result his employment was terminated without notice and a warrant was issued for his arrest [9: 19-Aug-1927]
He was arrested in Perth on 10 August 1927, went before the City Court in Perth, and was released on bail [86: 11-Aug-1927] [225: 10-Aug-1927]
His brother-in-law Bevil G. J. G. MORRIS offered the Carnamah District Road Board £443 as restitution [9: 19-Aug-1927]
The restitution figure was offered on the strict condition that the warrant be withdrawn immediately [9: 19-Aug-1927]
The Road Board, after a long discussion, decided four votes to two that they could not withdraw the warrant [225: 16-Aug-1927]
Their decision was partly due to the fact that they'd be committing a felony if they accepted MORRIS' offer [9: 19-Aug-1927]
They instead made it known that they would support a plea for leniency if the money was repaid [225: 16-Aug-1927]
He once again went before the City Court in Perth on Friday 19 August 1927 [86: 20-Aug-1927]
It was reported that he'd had only a small income prior to his employment with the Carnamah District Road Board [86]
His sudden affluence was said to be his undoing and that in "order to show himself a good fellow he lived above his means" [86]
In August 1927 he attempted to claim £30/0/4 owed in wages however the Carnamah District Road Board refused [9: 19-Aug-1927]
In the 1930s he worked as a Labourer and lived in the Perth suburb of Buckland Hill, later known as Mosman Park [50]
He was working as a Projectionist and living at 35 Johnston Street in the Perth suburb of Cottesloe in 1943 [50]
Later resided in the Perth suburb of Mount Lawley [2]

Died 12 February 1986; buried at Karrakatta Cemetery in Perth, Western Australia (Roman Catholic, ZE, 469) [2]
