The eldest of seven children, he had younger siblings William, Mary Ann, Charles, Sarah Ann, John, and Benjamin [20]
When the 1851 census was taken he was living with his parents and siblings at Benson's Cottages in Toxteth Park, Liverpool [20]
Married (1) Ann WAYWELL on 1 April 1856 at Saint Clement's Church, Toxteth Park in Liverpool, Lancashire, England [20]
At the time of his first marriage he was working as a Ship Steward and was still living at Benson's Cottages in Toxteth Park [546]
By the time the 1861 census was taken his wife had passed away and he was again living with his father at Benson's Cottages [20]
Married (2) widow Mary MCDONALD nee MCLEOD on 19 October 1870 in Anama, South Australia [55]
His sons Charles, Edward and Evander took up farming in Three Springs, Western Australia in 1906 [44] [152]
He was listed as a Gentleman in Three Springs from 1911 to 1917 [6] [19]
Resided on his son Evander's Canowie Farm in Three Springs in 1916 and 1917 [19]
Later resided in the Perth suburb of Claremont, although was referred to as "late of Three Springs" following his death [2] [39: 1-Apr-1918]
Died 29 March 1918; buried at Karrakatta Cemetery in Perth, Western Australia (Presbyterian, DA, 467) [2]
