Born 1886 [239: Tree 31]
Son of William WILLAWAY and "Eliza" Elizabeth TAINAN or MICHEL [15] [239: Tree 31]
His mother was born in 1863 and had arrived with her sister at the Benedictine Mission in New Norcia as a two year old in 1865 [239]
His paternal grandparents were living in the Victoria Plains bush when Benedictine monk Rosendo SALVADO arrived in 1848 [239]
In 1875 his father, then known as Willwill, arrived at the Benedictine Mission in New Norcia as a 16 year old [239]
Later that year Willwill was set upon by a group of older Aboriginal men angered at his rejection of their traditional ways [239]
The group inserted several fine jam-wood splinters into him, believed to be as punishment, to cause discomfort or even death [239]
Willwill called out to a woman passing in a cart who gave him a lift back to the Mission, where the monks removed the splinters [239]
His father died in 1893 and later that year he was living at the Benedictine Mission in New Norcia, where his mother was employed [321]
Married Molly DAVIS in New Norcia in 1908 [15]
His wife had an Aboriginal mother and an English born father by the name of John WELLS [239]
Member of the New Norcia Mission Cricket Club in 1910 [9: 4-Mar-1910]
Sentenced to three months imprisonment at the Police Court in Moora on 14 November 1911 [315]
He was held at Fremantle Prison from 15 November 1911 and then at Wadjemup / Rottnest Island from 22 November 1911 [315]
Released from Rottnest Island on 16 February 1912 and later that year was living in Carnamah [9: 29-Nov-1912] [315]
He appears to have resided in Carnamah 1912-1914 [9]
During his time in Carnamah he was known solely as 'Gabriel' [9]
Member of the Carnamah Cricket Club in 1912, 1913 and 1914 [9: 29-Nov-1912, 28-Nov-1913, 26-Jun-1914, 23-Oct-1914]
Member of the Carnamah Football Club in 1913 [9: 20-Jun-1913, 11-Jul-1913]
His daughter Evelyn or Evaline was born at the Native Reserve in Moora in 1914 and died in Carnamah later in 1914 [15]
It is likely that during his time in Carnamah he was working for pastoralist and farmer Donald MACPHERSON [P1]
Member of the New Norcia Mission Cricket Club in 1914 [9: 20 & 27-Feb-1914]
Father of Elizabeth, Harold [239], Evelyn or Evaline, Rosie and Gertrude [15]
