     He and his wife moved from Geraldton to the Perth suburb of Cottesloe Beach in 1899 [388: 12-Jul-1919]
     Four months later his wife returned to Geraldton and said she no longer wished to live with him [388]
     His wife sold a house in Geraldton and drew the surrender value of his life insurance policy, which he had transferred to her [388]
     He deferred getting a divorce "until his two children were settled in life" [388]
In 1909 he and his brothers were farming in both Carnamah and Three Springs as Maley Bros [86: 15-Apr-1909]
     They were farming Carnamah Farm in Carnamah and during mid April 1909 he ploughed 250 acres with an eight horse team [86]
     "Old Fred was looking well, and I think his horses were looking even better... considering the rough work they had been doing" [86]
     After finishing at Carnamah he went to Three Springs to join his brother Sol in ploughing - he with eight horses and Sol with five [86]
     In addition to their ploughing, there were eight men clearing and one carting off tree roots on their farm in Three Springs [86]
     "They are hardworking young men, and it is to be hoped they will be recouped by a good harvest" [86]
     In 1909 they were also cutting timber in Three Springs and sending it away by railway trucks to be sold for mines [86]
     He arrived back in Three Springs with a team of horses from Greenough during early August 1909 [9: 6-Aug-1909]

     When he applied to enlist stated Carnamah to be his present address, while he gave his permanent address as Three Springs [30]
     Although he gave his addresses as Carnamah and Three Springs, he gave his occupation as Fisherman [30]
     He stated his marital status to be "widower" and gave his son Claude E. MALEY of White Peak WA as his next of kin [30]
     Upon enlistment he was 5 feet 11½ inches tall, weighed 182 pounds and had brown eyes and grisly hair [30]
     At the Claremont Military Camp he was appointed to the 28th Reinforcements of the 10th Light Horse on 28 April 1917 [30]
     Embarked from Fremantle, Western Australia for active service abroad on the H.M.A.T. Port Sydney on 19 May 1917 [30]
     Private 3365 in the Australian Imperial Force's 3rd Light Horse Regiment in Egypt during the First World War [30]
     He was hospitalised numerous times due to illness before being invalided home to Western Australia [30]
     Disembarked from the Port Sydney back in Australia on 31 March 1919 [30]
     His name appears on the Three Springs Honour Board, which was unveiled on Tuesday 3 June 1919 [9: 6-Jun-1919] [10: 13-Jun-1919]
     Discharged from the Australian Imperial Force on 28 June 1919; received the British War Medal and the Victory Medal [30]
The day before he'd left for active service abroad he'd run into his wife on the platform of the railway station in Perth [388: 12-Jul-1919]
     She asked "where are you going?" to which he replied "can't you see?" after which she said "well, divorce me before you go" [388]
     He responded "I cannot. I am leaving tomorrow, but if I return I will do so immediately", which he did in July 1919 [388]
It was reported in November 1920 that he was living in Arrino [86: 20-Nov-1920]
