After leaving school in 1937 worked in his father's general store in Yarra Street, Carnamah [P99]
     Among his first jobs at the shop were washing bottles to be filled with vinegar and doing up food into small packages [P99]
     Also rode a bicycle around town and took grocery orders from people, and then did up the orders and delivered them [P99]
     Often when farmers came to town they would leave an order at the shop and then come back and collect it later [P99]
     He put together their orders, wrapped the items collectively up in four sheets of newspaper and tied it up with string [P99]
     Some customers gave eggs in exchange for something else, and he washed all the eggs before they were railed to Perth [P99]

Went to see Constable W. M. C. WHITE at the Police Station in Railway Avenue, Carnamah in 1940 to get his driver's licence [P99]
