"Din" Denis Joseph NOLAN

Son of Charles Aloysius NOLAN ^{[39: 22-Oct-1929]}
He arrived in Western Australia while still in his infancy ^{[39: 22-Jun-1933]}
Resided with his parents on farmland in Kununoppin, Western Australia ^{[6] [50] [354: 25-Mar-1927]}
In 1926 he shifted to Perth where he drove an omnibus for a number of months and then ran a greengrocery business ^{[39: 22-Jun-1933]}
Farmhand on his father's Monomeath Farm in Coorow in 1929 ^{[19] [39: 6-Feb-1929]}
     He was one of 98 people from the Coorow district who signed a petition in 1929 for a local hotel license to be granted ^{[39: 6-Feb-1929]}
     His father died on 30 June 1929 and was buried at the Three Springs General Cemetery in Three Springs ^[24]
     He was listed as the guardian of his brother Lloyd in an application to have the Coorow State School reopened in 1930 ^[215]
     In his will, their father bequethed a farm he owned in Commberdale to he and his brother Charles Edmund NOLAN  ^{[39: 22-Oct-1929]}
     He took over the running of the farm in Coomberdale in 1930 ^{[39: 22-Jun-1933]}

     During September 1930 he purchased a new Fargo truck ^{[81: 21-Sep-1930]}
     Competed in the Sheffield Handicap race held by the Moora Athletic Club during the 1930 Moora Agricultural Show ^{[12: 11-Sep-1930]}
     Despite a very good season, the farm did not pay owing to the fall in wheat prices due to the Great Depression ^{[39: 22-Jun-1933]}
     He was also involved in sharefarming but they agreed to call it square on account of the good work he'd done ^{[39: 22-Jun-1933]}
     He was left in debt from money owed for stores, spare parts and machinery ^{[39: 22-Jun-1933]}
After leaving Coomberdale in 1931 he shifted to Perth and took up 24 acres of land in Gosnells ^{[39: 22-Jun-1933]}
He commenced market gardening in Gosnells but it was not a success so he began training trotting horses ^{[39: 22-Jun-1933]}
In 1933 he was facing the prospect of being declared bankrupt ^{[39: 22-Jun-1933]}
