From The Western Mail newspaper, Thursday 26 December 1929:
Country Towns and Districts - Three Springs and Mingenew - Cereal and Pastoral Wealth - People and Properties
"The Three Springs Tennis Club has been a formidable proposition since Mr. C. L. Evans ("Jumbo") arrived in April, 1928, to assume the management of the first country branch of the E.S. and A. Bank to be established in Western Australia. Mr. Evans, of course, is a star of the first magnitude in the tennis firmament. Although he had practically no practise or training he won the doubles championship of the State this year with Bob Schesinger. In 1928 he won the championship with F. C. Edmondson, while his other victories are legion. Mr. Evans was the honorary secretary of the King's Park Club from 1924-27, previously being assistant secretary for three years. In Three Springs he hold the purse for the race and tennis clubs and the agricultural society. He is also auditor for the hospital."
