From The North Midland Times newspaper, Friday 6 October 1944:
Pioneer Passes - Vale Alfred Hollingsworth
"The older residents of the Carnamah district were shocked on Sunday to learn that Mr. Alfred James Hollingsworth had passed away at Guildford that day. The late Mr. Hollingsworth, who was aged 74 years, had been suffering with a heart complaint for some time, and although those near and dear to him had been prepared for the ultimate end for some time, the news of his demise nevertheless came as a great shock to them. Like all heart sufferers he experienced his periodical attacks, and when they had passed he appeared to be in fair health. Only a week or so ago he paid a visit to his sons' property at Carnamah and assisted them over the shearing. Deceased was one of the earliest pioneers of the Carnamah district, and the name of Alfred Hollingsworth will always be associated with the pioneering of Carnamah. Unlike a lot of pioneers he prospered in his farming venture, and in his old age was able to retire and take up residence at Guildford. We, of the younger generation, who follow on, have a lot to thank these hardy pioneers for. They were halycon days, those pioneer days of yesteryears, and thoughts of the rapidly thinning ranks of these grand old men sends one's memory straying back down the dam and dusty passages to a never to be forgotten past. Every sympathy is felt for the aged widow and her family of two sons, Richard and Stanley, and one daughter Vittoria (Mrs. P. W. Dewar). The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon in the Anglican portion of the Karrakatta cemetery. It is vale Alf. Hollingsworth, but his name will live down through the annals of local history."
