Son of Daniel Fisher SMITH and Jane HAYNES ^[55]
Married Charlotte Eliza PRATT in 1889 in Victoria, Australia ^[54]
Along with his wife and children he appears to have left Victoria and shifted to Western Australia in the mid 1890s ^{[15] [54]}
From as early as 1903 and until at least 1916 he worked as a Contractor and resided on Knebworth Avenue in Perth ^[50]
In 1917 he was living in North Perth ^[2] and was an employee of Malloch Bros in Perth ^[10]
He was in Carnamah on 20 December 1917 to erect a windmill for the Midland Railway Company at the 174½ mile railway siding ^[10]
While travelling on a railway tricycle with a local fettler a special goods train approached and ran down the tricycle they were on ^[10]
The train was travelling at about 15 miles per hour and had not been able to stop in time, and he was killed almost instantly ^[10]

Died 20 December 1917 in Carnamah; buried Karrakatta Cemetery, Perth WA (Seventh Day Adventist, AA, 5) ^{[2] [10]}
An inquest into his death was finalised at the Moora Court House in Moora on Tuesday 8 April 1918 ^{[10: 21-Dec-1917, 11-Jan-1918]}
The inquest concluded that his death was accidental, but that it could have been avoided had the train's driver been warned ^[10]
